Beginners to Reels Workshop - Thursday prompt!
Hello!
Everyone sees life from a different perspective (literally). Which makes life very interesting! It’s the same with camera perspectives: If we mix and match camera perspectives, shots, and angles, this makes our videos much more interesting and creative.
When you create today’s video, ask yourself how you could show a process or a frame from a different perspective than you usually do?
In the course of my studies, we were specifically asked to create a video with our smartphones as we had to focus solely on the story, the angles and the perspectives. We were not allowed to add music, text, or anything that would take the focus away from the actual content. I created a story about my kids (I love to work with my kids;-))). Janosch was eating a Gipfeli while Malin was playing with iron-on beads. She so much wanted a Gipfeli as well, so this is what happened:
(Hier Video mit Bügelperlen)
I used close-ups for details, medium shots as the story evolved, I placed the camera inside the oven and added some camera movement when Janosch was terribly shocked about what came out of the oven.
Your Thursday prompt is to create a short video including different kinds of camera angles and perspectives. Consciously choosing angles and perspectives can level up your videos from a creative perspective.
Here is some inspiration:
The process of coffee pouring into your mug
Opening a cupboard and filming from the inside of the cupboard
Filming your feet while walking (maybe speed the footage up or slow it down a bit to create a mood)
Wide-angle: sitting in the middle of a large room (or square) showcasing loneliness, that you’re bored or that you don’t know where to start?
Close-up of a drawing/painting that you are creating which allows showing details
Are you ready to create your next Reel?
This is what you need:
Your smartphone camera
Here’s what you need to keep in mind:
Create a shot list (This will not take much time, I promise!) writing down what shots you want to include in your video. This makes the whole process so much easier because you are less likely to forget anything. If you have to film the same scene later on it will be tricky. Having said that, if you’re only creating one shot from one angle that’s fine too!
Film as many scenes as you would like to. Keep on recording and don’t turn the camera off too soon as you might miss something fun and unexpected!
Edit the footage on an editing app and then upload the whole project to Reels or edit the footage in Reels.
The focus today is not on music, filters, or titles but you’re welcome to add it if you intend to publicly post the video! Don’t forget to tag Julie @ourhappyplace and me @lichtspiel_videos and add the Hashtag #ourhappyreels. If you prefer sharing the video just with our group, then post it on our private Instagram account: @ourhappyreels
I look forward to seeing what you’re all creating!
Have a lovely day
